In The Heart Of London, Bringing People Together

This is a site showing the unusual photographic project “Humans of London” created by Alexander Williams. The goal is to photograph Londoners on the streets and create an exhaustive picture book of the city's inhabitants. The project itself turned into a blog that tells the stories of Diversity across London. Bringing together communities from a wide array of different backgrounds, lifestyles, social experiences, races, religions. Differing people, perspectives, topics, ideas. Diversity is embracing people of different backgrounds, whether it be racial, geographic, experience, sex, religion.

                                                 "Everyone is heroes within their own perspective of life"

The simplest definition is a group of individuals living in the same general area. To go deeper, the London community becomes a collection of people who may span the city but share common values, ideas, norms, and identity. It’s individuals who are united by a common purpose.

My definition of community and the power of bringing people together has evolved dramatically since I became aware of my own identity.

Early on, the word 'Diversity' was decidedly narrow. I only saw and heard what I wanted to see and hear. Creating conversations and allowing for sparks to develop within each individuals mind was a foundation for growth, however, you can hear what people are saying but actually hearing it is another story completely. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Fast forward to now in 2022, and I find myself in a drastically different paradigm.

Along the way, I have met such a wide variety of different people, creating what felt like a parallel universe. Realising there is so much more going on around you than what you realise. Each individual I have met has been profoundly inspiring to the part of my personality that’s willing to learn and grow. Lessons from my past have informed the values of transparency, inclusivity, and diversity that I now aspire to embody every day when I walk outside my front door.

As the saying goes: 

" kindness doesn't cost anything."

The content on this blog will continue to feature posts from different diverse backgrounds, where I will showcase images of their everyday lives on the streets of London. Capturing their true selves, while empowering people to realise there is still so much more for this world to offer.
